YES, THERE WILL BE A 2020 SUMMER PROGRAM!
Signups for the Summer Reading Program will begin on June 15th. There will be Youth, Teen, and Adult programs. However, we won’t be doing our usual full schedule of Summer Reading programming.
Youth Summer Reading
This year, children will sign up and receive a wallet and a reading log. This will be your reading log for the ENTIRE SUMMER. You’ll also be asked what kind of books you like to read. Every ten hours of reading gets you a prize. Each week, the first 50 kids can pick up a Take Home Kit. Inside the kit, will be supplies and instructions for fun activities that you can do at home. ALL PRIZES will be picked up at the end of summer reading only if it is safe to do so. The end of summer reading will be the first week of August. This is when you’ll receive a bag with all the prizes you earned this summer!
Teen Summer Reading
Teens that sign up for summer reading will receive a reading log and asked what kind of book they like to read for a prize. The goal this summer, is to read for 130 hours. All teens who reach this goal will receive a free book and additional super cool prize! Prizes will be picked up at the end of summer reading only if it is safe to do so. This summer, the library will also offer fun, online Trivia and Escape rooms for teens. We are also excited to announce our partnership with other local libraries to participate in an Online Library Scavenger Hunt. Access to all of these programs is through our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/gardencitypl/
Adult Summer Reading
COVID-19 may have scaled things back, but adults (ages 14+) can still earn chances to win the display case prizes. Adults who sign up will receive a reading log. Every hour of reading earns one raffle ticket. Log your reading time and bring back your log during open library hours to collect raffle tickets. Prizes will be drawn July 31st
