Mission

The mission of the Friends of the Garden City Public Library is to help the Garden City Public Library serve as a community resource that provides all residents with free access to a broad array of quality materials and programs that meet their personal, educational, and recreational needs. We also work to promote understanding and appreciation of the library and seek support through monetary gifts, and gifts of books and other material.

Donations

The Friends of the Garden City Public Library accepts donations of Recent Books, Audio Book CDs, Music CDs, and DVDs. Donations should be clean and in good condition.

We DO NOT accept:

  • Damaged books with broken bindings, missing or torn pages, soiled, moldy, with smoke or water damage, or with excessive writing in the text.
  • Manuals over 5 years old.
  • Magazines, periodicals, or academic journals.
  • Textbooks or encyclopedias
  • Non-commercially produced media (aka home videos/recordings).
  • Workbooks or study guides that are partially or wholly filled in.
  • Audio cassettes or VHS Tapes
  • Large quantities of books unless by appointment gcfriends.kp@gmail.com

All donations are accepted without condition, and immediately become the property of the Friends of the Library. They cannot be returned. Some donations may be added to the Library’s collections. The rest will be sold in our annual book sale or recycled. Donations added to the collection may be withdrawn when they are worn or when their content is no longer current.

We accept donations during the Library’s regular business hours at the Circulation Desk. Please do not bring more than two (2) boxes per visit.

If you need a receipt for tax purposes, the library will provide one. We cannot, however, assign a dollar value to your donation.
